Call for Papers for the International Student Research Conference at HSE St. Petersburg, 20-21 April 2018

Undergraduate and graduate students in Humanities are invited to take part in the International Student Research Conference which will be hosted by the National Research University Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg (HSE University St. Petersburg) on 20-21 April, 2018.
Deadline for submissions: March 15, 2018

The conference is organized by the Department of History, HSE University St. Petersburg. It aims at exploring the dynamic field of history featuring both the efforts of various disciplines in dealing with the pasts and interdisciplinary approaches within the discipline of history.

The sessions will be arranged based on participants having either a conventional paper (15 minutes), or a short (less than 5 minutes) presentation showcasing their research and introducing their poster. Precise instructions will be sent following the selection process. The working language of the conference is English.

Research fields:
• Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern history.
We welcome proposals in: Useful Pasts in Early Modern history; Representations of Antiquity and Middle Ages in Historical Politics; Medievalisms in mass-culture and others.
• Modern Age: Empires and Nationalisms.
Themes accepted: Nationalism, Cultural Heritage and Nationalization of the Past; Comparative History of the Imperial Pasts, Imperial Diversity and Imperial Legacy; Symbolic Representations of History in Post-Imperial and Post-Colonial Societies and others.
• Historical Memory and Historically-Informed Discourses of Public Politics and Identity Politics.
• The Twentieth Century: the Pasts that Constructed the Present. Studies of Collective Trauma and Historical Justice.
• Cultural, Natural and Industrial Heritage, History in Public Museums and Media Space.
• History in Interaction with Other Disciplines: Environmental History, History of Science, Technological History, Urban History, Economic History, History of Everyday Life, History and Law.

Submissions: abstracts ~300 words, excluding references that should address the following:
• Research Question / Objective, Conceptual or Theoretical Framework;
• Methodology / Research Tools and Sources;

Participation in the conference is free of charge. Travel and accommodation costs are at the expense of the sending organization or participant.
